Olay, Tiburcio rule Singapore chess tilt – Manila Bulletin

SINGAPORE – International Master-elect Edgar Reggie Olay dominated the Open competition while Jayson Jacobo Tiburcio reigned in the Challengers’ category to capture the championship in the Moon Cake Rapid Open Chess Championships recently at the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre in Singapore.

Olay topped the Open division after posting three wins and two draws. He edged Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. of Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong City in the tie break points.

Arena Grandmaster and Fide Master elect Robert Suelo Jr. placed third overall.

Nine-year-old Tiburcio, who hails from Marikina City, meantime replicated the feat in the Challengers’ category, to keep a clean slate with 5.5 points.
